BlackRaven Publishing Group Stuff

I’ve decided to move forward with BlackRaven Publishing Group and choose 20 songs from the genres of R&B, Hip Hop, Country, and Gospel that I have written and get five-six of them composed and produced (I’m going to be producing them myself actually).  This way I can begin to push them to artists and A&R persons among the numerous other options for publishing music via Taxi.  I may throw in a rock song or two too now that I think about it.  I will be singing and rapping on a few of the tracks, Bryan will be singing on some and a few other new friends will help with things like the country and gospel tracks.  One gospel singer I’d like to record is this singer named CJ that went to a church I used to attend.  He was ultra talented.  I hope he’d be interested.

I have most of the 20 songs written already and only have a few re-writes to accomplish and I am hoping to have the funding for this to have the five-six songs full mixed down and mastered by the end of November ‘08.  So then I would join Taxi and start submitting my tracks and hopefully sell.  Here’s crossing my fingers.

Peace and Luv,

B. Marcel

Bad Boy

Sexy can I, just pardon my manners.
Girl how you shake it, got a nigga like (ohhhh)
It’s a kodak moment, let me go and get my camera
All I wanna know is, sexy can I.

-Ray J

Man do I wish I penned this banger, lol.  I love that song.  I just found out that I should now have the dinero to move forward with some plans I’ve had for some time revolving around the record label and my music publishing company so I’m a pretty happy camper right now.  I’ve still been writing away, day after day and here’s a little proof of that.  This song is titled Bad Boy:

Bad Boy

Verse 1

I slowly disregarded

the things that we had started

my life got so retarded

after getting caught up in you

and all the shit you do

makes me wanna do

some crazy shit to you

locked up in my bedroom

driving you crazy

wish you were my lady

but mine is at home waiting

so girl lets make this fast

Chorus

I know that she deserves better

I know that she’d find pleasure

in anothers arms who’s true

wouldn’t lead her on as I do

but I just can’t let her go

leaving me alone

I know I’m in the wrong

but this bad boy’s gotta live out his mantra

Verse 2

Now the way the story goes

three months off and on

distressing that her perfume

might leave a scent on me

her hair strands from her weave

could they be miss-placed on me

I’ve gotta leave this scene

paranoia’s overtaking me

why’d I have to play

play this dangerous game

gotta down ass chick at home

but oh I’m treating her wrong

I guess I’m finally starting to see

the other sides of things

Chorus

Verse 3

As verse three starts I must mention

the chick’s now 6 months pregnant

claiming it to be mine

but how when I was only part time

I cannot match the times

plus this girl ain’t mine

been playin’ the same game as I

turns out I was only the man on the side

damn I miss my girl

not ready for her to give birth

Chorus

Peace & Luv,

B. Marcel

Color me crazy but I’m seriously thinking of delving into the world of professional wrestling…on the local scene at least.  I’m a huge fan of the WWE and am actually toying with the idea of starting my own small promotion with a few partners somewhere down the road.  I’ve found this local wrestling school that teaches lucha libre style wrestling (think Rey Mysterio/HBK Shawn Micheals).  Just something other than music for me to do I guess, nothing more than that though, lol.

Lets see…music stuff.  So far I’ve got five potential album tracks done (as far as vocal layout, harmonies and melodies anyway), eleven-twelve potential album tracks written and within the coming weeks will be setting them to music with Bryan’s help. Oh yeah, I just finished this song too, let me know what you think of it:

I Just Met Her (But I’m Still In Love)

A penny for your thoughts

ice breaker for our start

magic moment conversations

late night after dark

I love you’s and

you love me’s

create together our unity

even though we’ve just begun

I can still tell she is the one

Pre-Chorus

Truly for me you have to be

truly for me you are indeed

sad so sad it seems

very few others have what we keep

Chorus

I just met her

but I’m still in love

can’t help but picture us

years from now

matrimony and a son

I just met her

but I’m still in love

Verse 2

We ain’t at the point of between the sheets

but I can’t wait ’til our bodies meet

deeper and deeper in love we’ll fall

it’s only natural with chemistry like ours

Bridge

Oh girl I can’t help but imagine

you and I making sweet love

a ring on the finger and your warmth

I know it’s early but

do you see this love

anywhere, anytime

just say the word I’ll make you mine

Pre-Chorus (Repeat)

Chorus (2x)

Peace & Luv,

B. Marcel

One of my major focuses this year will be songwriting.  Not only for myself, but for others too.  So far BlackRaven Publishing Group is getting off well.  I’ve published my first song and have a scratch demo of it up on my page.  My brother Bryan Cherry of the Bryan Cherry Band (www.bryancherryband.com) helped by co-writing it and composing the melody.  Check it out and let me know what you think: www.myspace.com/brewcity.

I write for several different genres, but country is by far my favorite becuase of the storytelling and/or tongue and cheek elements a good country song usually has in it.  Make sure you check out the song on my page and let me know what you think of it.

Peace & Luv

My New Logo

Hey everyone, I hope all is well in your neck of the woods.  I recently have been working on creating a logo for myself and think that I’ve got the perfect fit for me.  You can view it here:

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=12493477&albumID=2014619&imageID=27128307

on Myspace.  Let me know what you think of it.  I think the little things like this means a lot and deserves attention because your logo in a sense becomes you.  That is to say people will start to know you by your logo alone (considering if you brand yourself and/or your band properly).  Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.

Peace & Luv,

Brandon Marcel

Hey Lady

Hi all, I just wanted to let you know about this song I just wrote called Hey Lady.  The hook was in my head all day long driving me crazy until I finally gave in and sat down and wrote the entire song.  The hook that I’m talking about can be heard on my profile here (I still have some editing to do towards the end of the hook to make the timing fit right):

www.myspace.com/brewcity

Below are the lyrics:

Hey Lady

Verse 1
It’s as if before you nothing has ever been
like before you I’ve never known a friend
your so special to me and I try and let it show
flowers, cards and candy only the physical though
this love you see to me’s like the one from up above
this love to me is indeed a spiritual one

Bsec
Everyday, every morning, noon and night
at my nine to five and after work
in the evenings how I long and lust
for the lover that’s captured my heart
So cool, so still, you really melt my heart
sweet lady I’ll give to you all I got
Hook 2x
Hey Lady, could you tell me I’m the only one
Hey Lady, open and up and let your spirit show
Hey Lady, you’re the best thing that I’ll every know
show and tell me what you want to do
and I will give my all to you

Verse 2
Just state to me once that I’m your only man
Just state to me that I’m also your best male friend
Don’t mean to push it but I gotta know
if in you I’ve found what I’m looking for
Cause I feel I have but wanna know for sure
Are you the one that’s given me her soul
Hey lady

Hook 2x Repeat

Bsec Repeat

Hook 2x Repeat

I once heard Lionel Ritchie say that the keys to a great love song is either I want you, I need you and/or I’ll love you forever so that’s what I always try to accomplish in my works.  I’ll be sure to let you see the final version of this song once my partner and I set it to music.  But until then let me know what you think about the hook on my profile.

Peace and Luv,

B. Marcel

My Concept & More

Hey all, just wanted to let you know what I’ve been up to lately.  So far I’ve created the concept/layout of what I want my album to be.  The average time it takes to fully finish an album is a year and a half to two years so I’ll have a lot of time to create top notch tracks.  So from here on every song that I will choose/create will be targeted to a certain part of my concept and I’ll eventually pick the cream of the crop.

Also I’ll be releasing a EP of about seven songs before the full album to introduce myself to the market ahead of time.  On this EP I plan using the lyrics from 2 previously recorded tracks (performed by major artists) using the harryfox.com song base which allows you to pay a certain amount upfront for up to 2500 cds.  This is the target amount of demos I intended to press up anyway so that fits with my plan well.

Finally I will begin releasing some of my publishing songs to the rumblefish.com service which will licence my works on my behalf and split the $ with me (I believe it’s a 50%/50% split).  I believe this product to be a great one and can’t wait to see the results.

That’s all for now.

Peace & Luv,

B. Marcel

Was It Me

Thinkstock Single Image Set

I know this song doesn’t really go too well with today’s whole Valentine Day theme, but I couldn’t help but pen this one down.  Below are the lyrics to it.  It is called Was It Me and eventually will have that Marcus Houston “Circle” vibe to it once I layout the vocals (I’ll let you get the feel of it early from the scratch version I’ll produce later on today or tomorrow. I still have some edits to make on it too).  Anyways, let me know what you think about the lyrical content:

Was It Me

Verse 1

These thoughts are forever running in my head

you and him sleeping in my bed

I tried to fight it

but to me there was no end

how could you say that you love me

when in fact you’re sexin’ him

Bsec

My mind keeps telling me, Brandon it’s all right

that the lies and deceptions, were hers and not mine own

but yet and still my heart is asking, why oh why oh why

Chorus

Was it me was it me, that led you to go astray

was it me was it me, that let another in

was it the way that he looks

or that his swaggers better than mine

was it me was it me, that led to this broken heart

Verse 2

And my body’s yearning wishing you were here

and my mind is learning that you didn’t care

how could you defile me in my God damn house

how could the fact that you touched him make me so upset

I’m trying hard now to make it all make sense

but the truth of it all was she was just a trick

Change

You didn’t even care, not for a second

You didn’t even try, no more no more

hurt and neglect oh oh oh oh oh

Bsec

My mind keeps telling me, Brandon it’s all right

that the lies and deceptions, were hers and not mine own

but yet and still my heart is asking, why oh why oh why

Chorus 2x

Was it me was it me, that led you to go astray

was it me was it me, that let another in

was it the way that he looks

or that his swaggers better than mine

was it me was it me, that led to this broken heart

Outro

No more no more no more

no I don’t want you back

all of the lies you told

you can have them back

I’m flying solo

no more dead weight laying on my back

Peace & Luv,

B. Marcel
